«I am interested in the meaning of archetypes of what we call a “westernized” society and the values it conveys: competition, employment, profitability, standardisation. But I look at what´s behind these ideal images; disappointment and boredom, obsessions. My first works were absurd actions done at a workplace in France: as a night watchman, I felt in a dialectical situation: i was present but did not belong to the office. There was a big difference between the social image we wish to display and the everyday reality which we try to mold into our expectation. This creates a tension between agressive and parodic tones in many of my works.» -Nicolas Manenti
