BLACK MONDAY

With a name which seems to remind both an historical stock market crash and a gloomy working day eternally succeeding a too short week-end,Black Monday -title of my first personal show at Cyart Gallery in Seoul- carries an ambivalent meaning, while inLieblos Zusammengepresst(2012), a new series of drawings presented in this exhibition, pieces of furniture are depicted in nearly surrealistic, ironical but dehumanized sceneries.
Comically frustrating the spectator´s wait for spectacle, the anticlimatic aspect of my artworks is constantly balanced by a cold, oppressive climate which underlines a permanent anxiety behind the secure appearances of the domesticated urban environments. This dialectical tension makes the crux of many of my pieces, which help me question the experience of a modern society ruled by strong values of productivism, trapped in an endless, aggressive run in order to surpass itself.
The paradoxical anomy it creates, with its moments of void, boredom and frustration, are the basic materials I use to build my artworks: the useless objects of various “détournements”, the repetitive, mind-numbing tasks such as copying, stamping or pinning build an ironical point of view in which absurdity becomes a way of escape social pressure, and where reality is confused with itsown image, thus questioning the meaning of experiences, their authenticity.
